G. Jagadeesh, the Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has appealed to traders and the public to refrain from littering indiscriminately during the Dasara festival. He highlighted that while vendors selling banana stems, pumpkins, flowers, fruits, leafy greens, and puja items around KR Market, Gandhi Bazaar, near playgrounds, and in small lanes are not being harassed, the accumulation of waste on roadsides, footpaths, and streets is a growing concern.
The Commissioner warned that such littering obstructs vehicle traffic and poses health risks due to foul odors. Additionally, if rain occurs, the scattered waste will block the smooth flow of rainwater, while also forcing municipal sanitation staff to exert extra effort to clear the debris. He instructed that all waste remaining after business hours must be deposited at designated locations.
To manage the increased volume of waste during the festival, the BBMP Commissioner stated that additional staff and auto-tippers have been deployed at waste collection points for efficient collection and disposal.
