Sharad Katiyar, a 47-year-old Grade ‘F’ scientist in the programming division of the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), died after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment in Seegehalli near Whitefield. The incident, which occurred on October 21, was recently brought to light when Katiyar’s wife filed an unnatural death complaint with the KR Puram police.
According to the family, Katiyar had been battling severe depression and a psychological disorder for several months, receiving treatment at a private hospital on HAL Road and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans). On the day of the incident, he visited Nimhans for treatment before returning home. His father observed unusual behavior and followed him around the residence. Around 7:30 pm, Katiyar rushed up the stairs to the fifth floor; his father attempted to stop him but could not intervene before the fall. Despite efforts by family members and residents to assist and transport him to a hospital, Katiyar succumbed to his severe injuries en route. KR Puram police are investigating the case and stated that no suicide note was found.
