Adam Rizk, an Amazon software engineer based in Bengaluru, survived a severe highway accident without major injuries but received a repair estimate of Rs 61 lakh for his damaged Mercedes-Benz. The incident occurred while Rizk was driving in heavy rain, during which the vehicle hydroplaned, lost control, and crashed through a highway divider into the opposite lane. Rizk stated on X that he walked away from the crash unharmed, noting that the situation could have been far worse given the vehicle ended up on the wrong side of the highway.
After towing the wrecked car to an authorised service centre, Rizk was presented with the Rs 61 lakh estimate, a figure he described as unexpectedly high despite anticipating significant costs. He clarified that insurance would not cover the repair expenses because the vehicle has been declared a total loss, meaning the insurer will provide a cash payout instead. Social media users responded to the news by suggesting that replacing the vehicle is often more practical than repairing luxury cars that have sustained extensive structural damage and deployed airbags.
