A Bengaluru resident has alleged that an auto-rickshaw driver chased their Rapido bike taxi and attempted to pull them off the moving two-wheeler after they chose a bike over an auto for a short trip. The incident was detailed in a post on the subreddit r/RapidoUsers, where the user described trying to book a ride for a distance of approximately 2-3 km. According to the account, several auto-rickshaw drivers quoted a fare of ₹120, leading the passenger to opt for a Rapido bike instead. While travelling, the user claimed an auto driver began chasing their vehicle and tried to grab their hand to force them off the bike. The passenger stated, “If he had managed to pull me off I could have fallen from the moving bike and seriously injured myself.” Although a long-time local resident, the user expressed disbelief at the aggression, questioning why physical confrontation would occur simply because a passenger selected a bike taxi. They sought advice from the community on whether to contact police, report the matter to Rapido, or take other safety measures.

The post generated significant reaction from other Reddit users, many of whom urged the passenger to file a police complaint and provide the auto-rickshaw’s registration number to aid in identifying the driver. One commenter stated, “This is shocking behavior, I hope you and the rapido rider made a police complaint with his vehicle number. Please do this so you may save someone life in the future.” Another user, also a local, advised reporting the incident to the police, noting that traffic camera footage might assist the case. This user added, “I’m a local too and I had this one rapido guy ask me to lie that I was his friend cos auto drivers harass them for doing rapido rides. Tbh the way these auto guys ride, it’s not even a safe option anymore to ride in one.” A third commenter criticized the alleged conduct, remarking, “In any law abiding country that auto driver would have been jailed and his license cancelled forever. But then we are special.” A fourth user offered a different perspective, suggesting the passenger had encountered a rare instance of bad behavior, stating, “You didnt try to speak to the auto guy in your local language? We are told by localities that not all auto drivers are bad? You met the 0.1% of them as per what local people tell us. Bad luck. I think it’s karma catching up. For decades even before IT boom started, the auto guys were crooks. No localite has ever stood up against it. This is the result. Nothing will happen to him, just cope and move on.” Other users expressed strong anger, with one writing, “There aren’t enough cuss words in the world for me to describe my hatred for these auto drivers,” while another emphasized the severity of the act, saying, “You should file a police complaint. It was straight up attempt murder. Think if he managed to pull you off the moving bike & you fell down and hurt your head seriously, what would’ve been happened. If not you today, someone will be in your place. Just file a complaint against him & be safe.” The article notes that these claims are based on user-generated content and have not been independently verified.
