Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli arrested a young passenger who attempted to smuggle 900 grams of gold chains valued at ₹1.30 crore from Dubai. The contraband was concealed in the pocket of the suspect’s trousers during a search conducted on October 25.

The passenger arrived in Bengaluru from Dubai on October 25 and was stopped by customs officers for a routine inspection. During the examination, officials discovered the gold chains hidden in the pocket of the man’s pants. The seized gold has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered against the suspect under the Customs Act of 1962 for the illegal transportation of gold from a foreign country.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the source of the gold, the intended purpose of its transport, and the background of the illegal smuggling attempt. This seizure marks another instance of gold smuggling detected by customs officials at the airport, who have intensified inspections of arriving international passengers in response to the rising trend of such illicit activities.
